Radio University is an internship program of WAVA designed to successfully train students who are seeking to develop their broadcasting skills. The Comprehensive Internship covers: Sales & Marketing, Promotions, Administration and Production.

Radio University Interns are valued here at WAVA and are treated like staff members. They are allowed to learn in our Virginia studios in an atmosphere conducive to gathering new and fresh ideas every day to make our station broadcasts more effective.

Our staff members enjoy teaching the "tools of the trade." Our Interns are given specific projects that utilize their ideas and creativity in all of our departments, including administration, sales and marketing, traffic, engineering and production. They are even allowed to write, voice, and produce their own (:60) commercial to promote Radio U! Radio University students also have a unique opportunity to observe our live, local talk show hosts, as they produce and broadcast their programs.

We take special care to design an internship with each Intern’s specific needs in mind. We provide field trips, weekly seminars, group and individual projects. We also provide instruction on how to prepare a personal demo and portfolio to provide a well-rounded opportunity for our Interns to learn all aspects of radio broadcasting!  This in-depth training is all free of charge but you must be willing to work hard towards achieving your goals!  We will help you develop excellent skills.

A certificate of completion and complete evaluation is awarded upon completing a minimum of 150 hours during each Radio U Internship semester.

The program is not hosted every semester, but is based on the needs of the station.
